Email Another Castle Please ?
Kames Castle, Isle Of Bute (c) 2013 Thomas Nugent
Just love the emails that readers are kind enough to send in. This week, a particular missive from one Bulletin reader simply said “Email Another Castle Please?” – following on from an earlier simple email request that we replied to a few weeks ago. How could we resist?
Here is a neat island hideaway with the required castle. Plus several other buildings into the bargain. The overall price level is higher than the standard three bedroom semi-detached, but for 20 acres and also the numerous added buildings, when you add it all up this is quite a reasonable deal with a lot of buildings included plus a very nice sea view. It may be an idea to see if two or three of your friends might like to join in and buy one of the small detached cottages themselves. This would certainly bring the main castle building within financial reach of a much larger number of readers.
Agency Description: Kames Castle dates from the 14th Century at which time it was the seat of the Bannatyne family, whose roots can be traced back to the reign of King Alexander III of Scotland. More recently owned by the Marquess of Bute. A Victorian range of single storey buildings set around two courtyards lies adjacent to the Keep and replaces previous Georgian buildings.
Kames Castle – Extra Lodges Included (c) 2013 Robb Residential
With its interesting collection of properties, parkland policies and walled garden, Kames Castle represents an excellent opportunity to own and live in an historical property in a situation of great natural beauty. The cottages have been beautifully decorated and are subject to a rolling programme of maintenance and upgrading. They combine to provide either private accommodation or an excellent holiday letting business.
The agents stress that Kames Castle is currently being offered for sale as private accommodation all within a 20-acre Estate. The current owners make use of the cottages for friends, family and, as part of a holiday lettings business…..
http://www.kamescastlecottages.co.uk/
The cottage conversions were carried out with due care, attention and sensitivity to the preservation of the integrity of the original buildings. All properties are ‘B’ listed, with the exception of Colmac cottage which is ‘C’ listed.

Unique Property Competition
For this month we have a curious prize. It is an old pound note. Back in the day when this was real pocket money, not a little brass type coin! It may not be of the same value that last month’s competition was, but here is our ‘just for fun’ prize for November 2013 …
Memories ! = The November Prize = Just for Fun
It may well be a stretch to say this is lucky pound note. But if you are like us and believe in luck – don’t walk under ladders/one good turn deserves another sort of thing, then perhaps consider putting this old pound in a small picture frame and pop it onto your desk. We were given a similar style vintage ten shilling note by a very dear friend many years ago, and it has brought an extraordinary amount of good luck. So who knows – the above may bring you twice as much luck. Two ten bob notes add up to an old pound. Anyways here is the clue…
Competition Hint – Recent Nuclear Postcode ?
Free to enter. Just let us know your guess of who you think the above Competition Hint refers to? Please email your entry to us by 30th November 2013. You may need to check out a previous edition or tother elements of the Unique Property Bulletin to understand the clue a little better.

Cornish Chapel
The Old Chapel, Tolver Place, Penzance (c) 2013 NCT Agencies
This appears to be an FTSAA – Failed To Sell At Auction. We believe it was originally scheduled for Clive Emson’s 26th July 2013 auction. However, this wonderful piece of solid stonemasonry didn’t sell. So we have a detached former chapel with plans in place and just needs a unique person with the vision and endeavour to create something Devine.
Agency Description: NCT Estate Agents are delighted to announce that Richmond Wesleyan Chapel and School Hall is to be offered for sale. The chapel is a Grade II listed building, principally 2 storey in height and predominantly constructed of granite with granite quoins and dressing under a pitched slate roof. The property itself has gross internal dimensions of some 14.36 sq mtrs x 27 sq mtrs. Within the chapel itself is a raised section to the west comprising the organ and vestry.
Interior – The Old Chapel, Tolver Place (c) 2013 NCT Agencies
The principal entrance is to the church on the north and southern flanks of the east end elevation. The school building itself is single storey, believed to be constructed of stone and concrete block-work under hipped and transverse pitched roofs and under a slate covering. The hall has a gross internal floor area of about 367 sq mtrs comprising a central hall of 17.7 mtrs x 8 mtrs together with a number of ante-rooms and side rooms off. The hall is set at a higher level to the chapel and reached by external steps from the rear as well as having access to the side road. The chapel itself fronts Tolver Place and there is pedestrian access from the pavement to a large grassed area to the south. A pre-planning application enquiry has been made and the reference is: PA12/02271/PREAPP and this was for the conversion of the former chapel to residential use and demolition of adjacent hall and erection of 4 dwellings. A copy of this report is available on request.
Location: The Old Chapel, Tolver Place, Penzance, Cornwall, TR18 2AD.
Tenure: Freehold.
Guide: £250,000 [original guide was £250,000 to £300,000 but failed to sell at auction last July 2013]

Thankyou Samantha
We received a lovely email from Samantha asking if she could borrow one of the properties we had listed. Not that we have any specific ‘ownership’ of the information updated on the Unique Property Bulletin.
Though it is really nice when folk ‘get it’. That is the sharing of things on the internet. This website hopes to do that. Clearly Sam does too.
So in the spirit of appreciation, may we heartily recommend readers have a look at Sam’s website.
It is a little different to ours.
We certainly enjoyed visiting with a fellow property eccentric and list the link here…

Featured Unique Property – Architect Design
Proposed Newbuild Design
Old Coastguard Road, Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset (c) 2013 David James
Over a quarter of a century ago Unique Property Bulletin was born in an old Coastguard Station. Long term lease at less than one pound per year. There is more to it than that, but old coastguard buildings hold a special place in the heart here at the Bulletin. Though to be clear, this is not an old coastguard station, but a very modern newbuild and has the style of a proper coastal building. It very much reminded us of our old Coastguard Station – though with a very modern essence -and seemed to sit perfectly as a candidate for this week’s Unique Architecture slot.
Before you have a mindset at £1 a year, please understand that this next listing is in one of the most sought after locations in the United Kingdom at Sandbanks in Devon, and it is a high-end luxurious coastal newbuild designed by David James Architects. Therefore it is an entirely different ballpark.
We have two groups of reader this may appeal to. There are our readers who are well placed to buy such a building and like this sort of structure. We also have the valiant group of folk who wish to build something like this. Hence listing this unique, architect designed coastal property which has full planning permission on the Old Coastguard Road.
