Unique Property Bulletin 1 June 2014

Bargain Bank

Bank Corwen Philip Halling Former HSBC Bank, Corwen (c) 2014 Philip Halling

Old Bank, The Square, Corwen, Denbighshire, North Wales, LL21 0AB

If only this were within a few miles of the Bulletin – we would be waiving our paw in the air at the auctioneer. An interesting place to locate a live-work office. Also a tasty looking property with moneybags of potential. Having bought a bank a while back, there is a satisfaction in the process. Buying a bargain bank branch that has closed down is genuinely an interesting experience. Especially for anyone who has suffered the travails of trying to finance a unique build or renovation with the help of a bank. The mantra that – as with money – banks lend you an umbrella when it stops raining is particularly appropriate when restoring unique property. When you could do with help from your bank, the answer is all too often “no”. When you don’t need it, the banks throw money at you. The irony of buying a closed bank building can almost be tasted. This particular example in Corwen is a fine looking Grade 2 listed building of substance.

Freelance Journalist Invited

Freelance Journalist Eileen Warren

Starting Small In Print. Who Knows How Far You Can Go? (c) 1963 Eileen Warren

Due to continued expansion in readership levels here at Unique Property Bulletin online, we have a very modest role available for a part-time freelance journalist. Someone with appropriate media skills, and IT knowledge: WordPress website ability a definite asset.

The position will require the regular research and assembly of one in every four in our Unique Property Bulletin online series. This will include all the regular elements to be put together, copy-edited and uploaded online:

6 x Unique Properties & Photograph.

1 x Unique Architectural Building & Photograph.

1 x Unique Try Before You Buy & Photograph.

1 x Topical Article Per Edition.

Initially the requirement will be for about 25% of current main upload content to be fully prepared and progressed to online publication. The frequency of the Unique Property Bulletin is one edition each week.

Publication is 9pm Sunday night.

Guidance can be given for any and all areas until the freelancer is comfortable – especially IT and website protocol.

Depending upon how the Bulletin evolves, there is potential to make this a more significant appointment for between 50% and 75% of the website content with increased remuneration as appropriate. In other words, a modest part time freelance relationship has the potential to grow to something much more substantial over time.

This growth path cannot be guaranteed. However, if the past 120 issues are anything to go by, the future holds a reasonable chance of a modest freelance start becoming quite fulfilling and with a useful income. Also the possibility of ending up living in a unique genre of home. Indeed, enthusiasm in this direction is an important attribute.

Please apply in confidence to:-

Mr C. McLean, Unique Property Bulletin Ltd., Harbour Cottage, Shore Street, Helmsdale, Sutherland, KW8 6JZ.

Alternatively fill in our online form …

Unique Property Bulletin Email Address Request Form

… and we will provide a private destination email to respect the confidentiality of any personal information etc. Please do NOT email a CV using our generic contact page.

Please Note: You do NOT need to physically commute in any way. As long as you have Broadband and basic wordprocessing/IT skills the required assistance can be undertaken purely online.

This is a very modest freelance income. Initially 4 hours at the recognised “Living Wage” at a four week frequency. Payment gross, on a self-employed basis. Mainly to cover for shortfalls such as has happened this week.

We go into a little more detail in this week’s editorial at the end of this Bulletin.

Temperance FTSAA

Temperance Hall

The Temperance Hall & Flat, 20B George Street, Cheshire, CH1 3EQ

This former Temperance Hall has character and an interesting neighbour! The main building for sale might suit conversion to an unusual home – subject to planning permission. It Failed To Sell At Auction [FTSAA] and may now be in the bargaining zone for a post-auction sale.

Guest Journalist Initiative HIGNFY Style

Typewriter Underwood Classic

Classic Typewriter & Writer (c) 1931 Underwood Typewriter Company

It Could Be You !

A couple of weeks ago we started advertising for a freelance journalist to assist with some editions of the Unique Property Bulletin. The requirement is because of health issues surrounding the primary contributor, and time constraints for others in our very small team of volunteers.

The aim now, is to keep what has become a reasonably successful website online, viable and continue sharing unique property information that is of use and interest to our growing readership.

The remuneration is balanced with the liklihood that those new readers joining the production side of Unique Property Bulletin may well pick up some useful tips in websitology along the way. If we trogolodytes can manage this, then pretty much all of our readers should be up to the task – probably way ahead in fact. Given the aim here is to help fellow travellers find their ideal unique home – often far from the madding crowd – it may be a significant asset to know how to operate the business end of an internet site. Assuming you don’t already know.

Typewriter Golfball Machine Etan J Tal RSZ

Slowly Evolving Scribe Writer: The 1961 IBM Golfball (c) Etan Tal

Since our original freelance journalist advert went online we have had several enquiries from readers who want to join up, but not all have the skillset to go forward. Our view is that this can be remedied.

Helping You, Help Us, Help You.

In essence, this initiative is a two-way street. We have a modest amount of reserves to remunerate those who would like to join up and help produce editions of the Unique Property Bulletin. Added to which we have the patience and albeit fairly basic IT ability to help our new writing crew.

Typewriter Golfball Etan J Tal

The Golfball Typewriter: Once The Cutting Edge of Media (c) Etan Tal

During the week whilst watching an edition of the television programme Have I Got News For YouHIGNFY the “guest presenter” idea [following Angus Deyton’s departure] rang a bell here.

Why not have a guest journalist for various

Unique Property Bulletin editions?

This would increase the variety, range and dynamic of this website. It may appear to be a little of a monologue in nature some weeks. Increasing the number of contributers has to be a healthy thing.

Type Willi Heidelbach RSZ

How We Started: Old Lead Driven Printing Press (c) Willi Heidelbach

So here is the evolution of this idea. We invite those amongst our readers who would like to have a go at putting an edition of the Unique Property Bulletin together to come aboard. Maintaining the current structural format:-

6 x Unique Properties & Photograph.

1 x Unique Architectural Building & Photograph.

1 x Unique Try Before You Buy & Photograph.

1 x Topical Article Per Edition.

But with their own topical article put together by the aforementioned guest contributer for any given week. As mentioned, the remuneration is at a reasonable and sustainable level. It takes the strain off of a semi-functioning writer who is struggling with personal health issues at the moment.

For new guest contributers at Unique Property Bulletin whom the readers express their democratic liking – acclaim and website visitor number measures – each will then be asked to continue their good work. In addition to the modest financial remuneration, we will hold our end of the deal up, and impart as much internet and IT website skills as we can muster – assuming it is of use to new contributers.

So any budding freelance journalists and website contributers, please feel free to get in touch. We will guide you in putting together an issue of the Unique Property Bulletin and who knows, you could join the team here on a long term basis. Which, by the way, has the perk and distinct possibility of you ending up in a unique property of your dreams that little bit quicker than might ordinarily be the case. We tend to get each other into all sorts of trouble and mischief.
