Old School – Very Old
The Old School House, Portree (c) 2013 Isle of Skye Estate Agency
If you are looking for clean air, fine views, and remoteness, this old schoolhouse may be an interesting proposition. Given the size of plot, and views, the price also holds an attraction.
Agency Narrative: The Old Schoolhouse is a traditional 1½ storey stone built property in need of complete renovation located within the scenic and quiet crofting township of Glenmore. The property sits in a generous garden ground extending to 0.64 acre or thereby (to be confirmed by title deed) bordered by a burn complete with a waterfall and enjoys open views across the surrounding croftland.

Unique Property Competition
For now, we have a curious prize. It is an old pound note. Back in the day when this was real pocket money, not a little brass type coin! It may not be of the same value that last month’s competition was, but here is our ‘just for fun’ prize for November 2013 …
Memories ! = The November Prize = Just for Fun
It may well be a stretch to say this is lucky pound note. But if you are like us and believe in luck – don’t walk unedr ladders/one good turn deserves another sort of thing, then perhaps consider putting this old pound in a small picture frame and pop it onto your desk. We were given a similar vintage ten shilling note by a very dear friend many years ago, and it has brought an extraordinary amount of good luck. So who knows – the above may bring you twice as much luck. Two ten bob notes add up to an old pound. Anyways here is the clue…
Competition Hint – Recent Nuclear Postcode ?
Free to enter. Just let us know your guess of who you think the above Competition Hint refers to? Please email your entry to us by 30th November 2013. You may need to check out a previous edition or tother elements of the Unique Property Bulletin to understand the clue a little better.

The Shortest Commute
The Pedestrian, Carlisle, Cumbria (c) 2013 Pugh Auctioneers
We don’t feature that many old pubs, probably for concern about over exposing these fairly frequent sale properties. However they make very good short-commute-to-work buildings. Here, for little more than the price of a flat, is a home upstairs, plus a business premises downstairs.
As regular readers and friends may know, several years ago we tried one of these. Refurbished the flat, and turned the old pub into a Coffee Bar….
http://scotslion.co.uk/turning-a-corner/
That particular renovation took off. We almost couldn’t cope with the influx of business. From near dead and derelict – to very dynamic.
This way of life isn’t for everyone. But we have included the former pub in Cumbria as a reminder that a unique lifestyle can be located for relatively little money. Plus a lot of elbow grease and hard work may be required. So here we have the possibility for someone to change their style of life – and reduce their commute to 30 seconds from home to work.
Auctioneer’s Description: Vacant two storey former public house comprising a ground floor trading area with WC’s and basements with 3 bedroom living accommodation at first floor level. The property lies in a predominantly residential area within approximately 1 mile of Carlisle town centre, 2 miles from Junction 43 of the M6 motorway and 10 miles from the Lake District National Park.

Library – Future Life?
Former Ashburton Library, Croydon, Surrey (c) 2013 Robin Webster
Back in the 21st October 2012 Unique Property Bulletin we featured an adventure which we are determined to embark upon – with an old library …
http://uniquepropertybulletin.org/unique-property-bulletin-21-october-2012/
[Second property from the top of this Bulletin]
We still feel that there is potential in keeping some form of library and community use for these fine buildings. This week’s particularly well presented 1897 library building at Ashburton has been the centre of some controversy in the closing and selling off process.
It may be that the local community and planning authority might be persuaded to support say a planning permission application where a new owner would receive council permission to live in a part of this building to be converted to a dwelling, whilst the remaining element is utilised for library style purposes. Including – for the sake of future viability – an internet cafe. Just a thought. Please let us know how you get on.

Architecturally Unique
WoW – The Emporia – Wingårdh Architects (c) 2013 Tord-Rikard Söderström
http://www.archdaily.com/386107/
Several months ago, a friend suggested we include a Unique Architecture portion in each online edition of the Bulletin. That was a fantastic idea. This element has become very interesting to research. The discoveries each week of what the architectural profession imagine and create is a pleasure to report on.
This week we have Swedish Born architect Gert Wingårdh….
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gert_Wing%C3%A5rdh
One of the Wingårdh Architectural Practice clients would have ended up with a monolithic big box of a building. But …
The Emporium – Imagination Made Real (c) 2013 Wingårdh Architects
… instead of something that many folk would just pass by in the street, Mr Wingårdh and his very talented associates have designed a structure with a true wow factor. If you study this building more closely, there are very beautiful aspects to it. At first glance can be overlooked as the angular and stylish photograph above illustrates. An incredible building.
If this form of architecture sparks your interest and imagination, we would recommend having a look at the Wingårdh website …
It is not the easiest to navigate, but the effort in getting to grips with the website protocols for Wingårdh are well worth it. There are many interesting things to see. Not just large building commissions. Mr Wingårdh’s firm also takes on smaller projects such as this Mill House …

The Mill House (c) 2013 Wingårdh Architects
If the Swedish Wingårdh Architect firm can make imagination become real in the above concepts, then it might be worth an email of your ideas across to this fine firm to see what might come out of the melting pot of design.
