Kaizen & Continual Improvement In The Bulletin’s Effort To Help Readers

The Old Station, Station Road, Saintfield, County Down

One of Hundreds Extra Unique Properties: The Old Station, Station Road, Saintfield, County Down

A few weeks ago we wrote about Kaizen, the philosophy of continual improvement along with how this impacted upon our efforts in helping you find that exceptional place to call home. We also had a little nervousness about moving from publishing the Bulletin from two-week to a longer frequency.

Seems like another case of wasting worry. The quid pro quo to ameliorate going longer between publishing the main Bulletin was, and is, the promise to boost our new social media newsfeeds. We needn’t have been perturbed. The Twitter and Facebook Facebook platforms are a delight to interact with. Even just a few weeks in and they are evolving nicely. As we come to the close of 2015 and travel into the new year of 2016, this edition has a look back on the evolution of our efforts to get you into some property mischief.

The full feature can be read – at the foot of page 2.

Fire Station For Sale

A Home For Classic Car Enthusiasts?

Former Fire Station Close Hill, Redruth, TR15 1EP
Former Fire Station Close Hill, Redruth, TR15 1EP

At just £71 per square foot, this old fire station in Cornwall is competitively priced, and also ideal for vintage car enthusiasts. There are at least two former Top Gear production guys that look in on this website from time to time, and we’d be delighted if they created a really interesting home out of this with space to house a classic car or two in this fire station.

Something like the vintage car scene from the old 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The garage scene where a Ferrari flies out of the plate glass window is memorable. Though not something you would like to repeat. On the subject of unusual homes that cater for the owner’s vintage cars, the unique house that featured in that film came up for sale in 2009 (click here). Even today, most folk wince when the car exits in style out of a plate glass window and lands 20 feet below.

How Much Fun Is This? 🙂 Just Take A Look At That Video!

Okay this monorail for pedal cycling is pretty left-of-field, even for us, but we couldn’t resist featuring it. What a wonderful idea. Also, there are occasional times when we feature a unique property and access is not easy. At least one earlier property could have done with something like this to connect the island to the mainland…

Towan Island

Towan Island, Cornwall

If you don’t fancy the narrow vertigo inducing footbridge, then a would be just the ticket. By the way, you can holiday on Towan Island – details: click here. Though there is NO Shweeb monorail at Towan Island in Cornwall. Yet!

Howard’s Way?

Like The TV Series? Love A Real Life Version? We Have One Here For You.

The house and business – not the television drama, nor actors!

Howards Way Maritime Television Series
Actors Not Included!

Howard’s Way Television Series: At Its Peak Watched By 14 Million Viewrs

In the 1980’s a popular television series called Howard’s Way ran to 78 episodes. The principle character, Tom Howard was played by actor Maurice Colbourne. The character Tom was made redundant from his job as an aircraft designer after 20 years and was unwilling to remain in the rat race. A sailing enthusiast, Tom decided to pursue his dream of designing and building boats, putting his redundancy into buying the Mermaid Boatyard. You will need to buy the DVD boxset to find out for how much and what drama ensued. It is worth noting that up to 14,000,000 viewers tuned into the series as illustrated by this clip: click here.

Rudders Boatyard MAIN Headline Page

Rudders Boatyard & Badger Cottage & Burton Cliff, Pembrokeshire

I suspect that the owners of Rudders Boatyard may not keenly identify with the big hair and drama of that retro 1980s television series, but the component real life asset parts are definitely available. With subtle differences. Unlike the fictional Mermaid Boatyard, Rudders makes a good profit. The current owner of Rudders Boatyard bought it in circumstances not that far removed from the initial plot-line of the Howard’s Way television series. In real life during the late 1990s Alastair Pollard was looking to decrease the stresses of running a 60 strong IT staff, and had a yearning for a gentler style of living and working. A boatyard was the ideal. The result? Fifteen years of working in a beautifully located business and living in a waterside house with spectacular views. There is much more to Rudders Boatyard and we have dedicated a web page for those who would like to know more.

Around & Around

Lower & Lower

Treales Windmill Home

Treales Windmill, Treales Road, Treales, Preston, Lancashire

Not the windmill sails that are getting lower – just the price – so no need to duck when going in. Actually the sails appear to have sailed off into the sunset. But the character remains. This magnificent property is now a three bedroom home. The lower price reflects the need for a little cosmetic work to make this place sparkle. It has £50,000 trimmed neatly off of the asking price.

Converted from a 17th Century Grade II Listed former windmill. Set within a complex of two other properties in a fine rural location with beautiful views across the Fylde plain. Plus a useful out building providing further potential. The property comes with around 6.84 acres of land. The windmill house is in need of a little tender loving care, but that is half the fun.
