So to give that a fair bit of coverage – especially the picturesque photographs and excellent aerial video – we have added a dedicated webpage. More of that in a few moments.

Lock Keeper’s Cottage – First of Four

Terras Crossing Cottage, Sandplace, Cornwall PL13 1PH MAIN

Terras Crossing Cottage, Sandplace, Cornwall

Something must have happened recently in the mainstream press or thereabouts to put a spring in the step of folk looking to buy a lock keeper’s cottage. The reason we think this is because we have had three separate enquiries about this genre of unique home conversion. That is a relatively high cluster of interest in a specific style of unusual property.

So this edition we aim to help our intrepid readers with a selection of lock keeper’s houses for sale.

Terras Crossing Cottage, Sandplace, Cornwall PL13 1PH 3

Picturesque Location – Terras Crossing Cottage, Sandplace, Cornwall

What do you reckon? Does the rowing boat in the foreground needs a clean and lick of paint!

The first lock keeper’s cottage is very competitively priced, and genuinely picturesque. Not only for those with a love of boats and waterside views, but there is even room for a tiny “request-stop” train service. Such a thing is very rare nowadays…

Former Bathing Station

Interesting Lapsed Planning For Hotel & Marina

Would Make An Amazing Home

Former Bathing Station Ardbeg Road

Former Bathing Station, Ardbeg Road, West Bay, Rothesay, Isle of Bute, PA20 0RA

Doesn’t look much from the top, but there is a lot of building to be explored below this.

Continuing our waterside theme for this Bulletin we have a very rare item here. Up for auction is a something described as a waterside bathing station. It is not quite the traditional Lido open air swimming pool, but something fairly close to those old fashioned places of holiday fun.

In fact there is a very informative video of this particular property, with excellent photographs from way back when – as an operational facility – right up to date where it really does need some imagination to see how a conversion and restoration might best enhance this place….

Click On The Photo Above To Watch The Video

Though with a decent amount of vision and architectural input, this place has the makings of an exceptional unique dwelling. Subject of course to planning permissions etc. Previous lapsed planning for conversion to a hotel and marina.

Auctioneer’s Narrative: The former Bathing Station accredited by architect Thomas Beveridge built in 1933 on the West Bay Rothesay. Set in a desirable location with first class views of the seafront. Land Registry Title is to the low water tide mark (usually owned by the crown).

Previously an enclosed open water swimming area with changing rooms and shower rooms and toilets, on the shore side. The site could be developed subject to the necessary planning permissions to various types of developments, from leisure and recreation to residential luxury dwellings. Previous lapsed planning for hotel with marina. The Isle of Bute lies in the Firth of Clyde, tucked into the spectacular sea lochs of southern Argyll and is less than two hours from the City of Glasgow.

Architecturally Unique

Please note, each edition we feature the work of a unique architect. These properties are usually NOT currently for sale, but are included to help inspire readers as to the talent that abounds when a good architect’s mind meets the imagination of a unique property person, and something that little bit special is created by the synergy.

Unique Air Floating Sea Home

We actually featured this visually striking structure back in the Bulletin during March 2015. One of our top ten favourite unique properties. Then last week a kindly reader emailed us with details of a video of the property that aired on television in Australia. We really enjoyed the episode and thought it well worthwhile sharing it with fellow readers of the Bulletin.

Makes for a fascinating study on how these things go from concept to the built home. Especially as the video covers the rebuild and details of how that went progressed…

Try Before You Buy

The property included within the try-before-you-buy section of the Unique Property Bulletin – is NOT for sale. Our endeavour is to provide a sample, and actual experience of what it would be like to live in any particular genre of unusual abode. This specific listing is for a short-stay break. Our offering for this edition is:-

 Sea Gem

A Unique Holiday

Sea Gem, 19 The Suttons, Camber, East Sussex, TN31 7SA

Sea Gem, 19 The Suttons, Camber, East Sussex, TN31 7SA

One of the nice things about researching and compiling each edition of Unique Property Bulletin is that you get to share property details with interesting folk. It is excellent when that process turns out to be a two-way-street. Metaphorically.

During 2014 a television production researcher contacted us for possible candidate properties to go on a new t.v., series. We were delighted to share. That compliment has been returned. The series is called “Homes By The Sea” and hosted by environmental design architect Charlie Luxton a.k.a. “Bluey” given the colour of Charlie’s favourite jacket! As well as emailing candidate properties across to the researcher at Homes By The Sea, we also have details back. This particular gem is literally that. Called Sea Gem it sits right on the sea front in East Sussex and is a spectacular design with Antipodean influences plus unique features that make it virtually a one off.

What isn’t too well known is that this property can be rented for holidays. It is a lot of property for the holiday money, and bound to inspire if you chose to visit for a week or even a short 3 day break.

This Edition’s Unique Property Feature:-

Big Bang & Little Boom

The Smaller Underground “Bomb Rooms” Are Very Popular.

Going through the daily (and wonderful) emails we receive here at Unique Property Bulletin there was one from a lady who asked us to help sell her “Bomb Room”. The assumption this end was the “Bomb Room” was one of the very popular UKWMO Nuclear Bunkers that seem to sell so very well.

How wrong it is to make assumptions. Instead of a little boom of a bomb room, our reader has an ultimate big bang of an underground complex of many bomb rooms…

Nuclear Bunker Big Boom 2

Big Bang – A Very Big Nuclear Bunker
The Nondescript Entrance To The Bomb Room Leads To Two Humongous Blast Doors

Behind this new listing’s front door (the first picture above) your jaw would probably drop at the massive blast doors that the passageway leads to. Thereafter, we have an extensive ammount of accommodation underground.

Nuclear Bunker Big Boom 4

Big Bang – A Network of Underground Bomb Protection Rooms

The thing is, this big bang bomb room is located in Sweden. We don’t often go too far from UK shores. However this is such a rare property, that when the owner approached us, we couldn’t help ourselves but to share it with Unique Property Bulletin readers.

Plus the fact that anyone who watches Top Gear will understand one of the reasons Top Gear is such a phenomenal success. It is often the car and journey, rather than the distance to the destination that captures the imagination.

Viewers of Top Gear will see the presenters get into a candidate test car, and the presenters think nothing of driving, via the Channel Tunnel to somewhere that, after a while watching, does not really seem that far away. Though please be aware that it is a reasonable (but exciting) trek…

MAP – From London To Luleå – Click Here

What an amazing round trip that would be!

Nuclear Bunker Big Boom 3

Big Bang – Big Bomb Protection Rooms

Owner’s Narrative: A unique opportunity to purchase an “underground facility” in Luleå, Sweden close to the airport and railway links. Total area 3,500m2 of 18 chambers between 160m2 and 450m2 plus offices, kitchen, changing room with shower/WC and workshop/storage. The vaults are fully air-conditioned and have humidity control, movement sensor lighting, fully alarmed. Forklift and road access to loading bay.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

VERY IMPORTANT

Please don’t be disappointed if the 37,000 square feet bunker in Sweden is not quite for you. We can virtually guarantee that others, both Big Bang and Little Boom sizes – WILL come up for sale in the UK. If nothing else in this Bulletin is of interest, the principle of preparation for the next big thing is a good one. Recognise this, and start saving for the forthcoming property of your wishes. The opportunity to buy these structures – and othe unique property – really can result in a personal success for our readers.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Back to Big Bang bunker – just to give readers an idea of what 3,500 square metres looks like, this equates to around 37,673 square feet.

Your average living room in a standard dwellinghouse is 12 feet by 12 feet. That is 144 square feet. Approximately 260 living rooms would fit into this Swedish Leviathan. Of course that is not how the current layout of this massive underground bunker is formatted. We just mention small statistical comparison so as to give a quantity that we can get our head around. Whichever way you look at this, it is a very big hole in the ground to play with!
